# Limit orders

> Set a target price and let DYXY swap automatically when the market reaches it.

A limit order swaps your tokens only at the price you set, or better. You don't need to watch the chart. Once the market reaches your price, the order is filled and the tokens arrive in your wallet.

Limit orders are available on all eight networks: Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Arbitrum, Base, HyperEVM, Avalanche and Robinhood Chain.

## When to use a limit order

* **Buy the dip.** Set a buy price below the current market and wait.
* **Take profit.** Set a sell price above the current market.
* **Avoid slippage.** A limit order never fills below your price, however the market moves.

## How to place a limit order

**1. Switch to Limit**

In **Trade → Swap**, select the **Limit** tab.

**2. Choose tokens and amount**

Pick the token you sell, the token you buy, and the amount you sell.

**3. Set the limit price**

Enter the price at which you want to swap. Use the quick buttons to set it at the market price or a percentage above or below it. DYXY shows how far your price is from the current market.

**4. Choose an expiry**

Pick how long the order stays open, from a preset or a custom duration of your choice. If the price is not reached before expiry, the order expires and nothing is swapped.

**5. Place the order**

Approve the token if asked, then confirm the order in your wallet.

## How limit orders are filled

**Your tokens never leave your wallet while the order is open.** Placing a limit order does not lock them in a smart contract. They stay in your wallet, and are only swapped at the moment the order executes.

Your order waits until the market price reaches your limit price. When it does, the order executes onchain at your price or better, and the output is sent to your wallet.

A few things to keep in mind:

* **Your price is a minimum, not a guarantee of a fill.** If the price touches your level only briefly, or liquidity at that level is thin, the order may not fill, or may fill only in part.
* **Keep the full amount in your wallet.** Because the tokens stay with you, you can still move or spend them. If your balance drops below the order amount, the order cannot be filled.
* **Keep the approval in place.** On EVM networks, the order executes through the token approval you gave. If you revoke it, the order cannot be filled.

## Managing open orders

Open orders appear under the swap panel and in your [Portfolio](https://docs.dyxy.io/portfolio/overview.md).

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Open** | Waiting for the market to reach your price |
| **Partially filled** | Part of the amount has been swapped, the rest is still open |
| **Filled** | The full amount has been swapped |
| **Expired** | The expiry passed before the order filled |
| **Cancelled** | You cancelled the order |

To cancel, click **Cancel** next to the order and confirm in your wallet. The order is removed, and nothing more is swapped from your wallet.
