# Referrals FAQ

> Common questions about the DYXY referral program.

> **Do I need to trade to become a referrer?**
>
> No. Connect your wallet, open **Referrals** and create your code. You can start inviting traders right away.

> **Can I use my own referral code?**
>
> No. Self-referrals are not allowed. A wallet cannot be linked to a code created by the same wallet.

> **Can I change the code my wallet is linked to?**
>
> No. Your wallet can be linked to only one referral code, and the link is permanent.

> **Which trades generate rewards?**
>
> All trades that pay a DYXY trading fee: swaps, perps including Degen mode, stocks and trading bots. Pools, staking and lending have no DYXY fee, so they generate no rewards.

> **Is my tier based on volume or on fees?**
>
> On volume. Your tier is set by the total trading volume of your referral network in a calendar month. Your reward is then a share of the fees that volume generated.

> **When does a new tier start applying?**
>
> At the start of the next month. Your tier for each month is based on the previous month's network volume.

> **Can my tier go down?**
>
> Yes. Tiers are recalculated every month. If your network's volume falls below a threshold, your tier for the next month is lowered to match.

> **Do I keep earning if my referred traders stop and come back?**
>
> Yes. They stay linked to your code, so you earn again as soon as they trade.

> **Does the 10% discount reduce my rewards?**
>
> Your share is calculated on the fees traders actually pay, after their discount. The discount is what makes your code worth using.

> **Can I be a referred trader and a referrer at the same time?**
>
> Yes. You can join with someone else's code, keep your 10% discount, and still invite your own network.
